NEWS RELEASE: FEBRUARY 24, 2004 Circus Theatricals opens the World Premiere of “DECONSTRUCTING THE TORAH,” by Colette Freedman A humorous evening of five women's unconventional journeys through politics, murder, romance, birth, and death opens Tuesday, March 9, 2004 LOS ANGELES, CA. — Circus Theatricals continues its support of new plays and playwrights with the World Premiere of “Deconstructing The Torah,” by Colette Freedman. Deconstructing the Torah, a humorous evening of five women’s unconventional journeys through politics, murder, romance, birth, and death, is loosely inspired by the books of Genesis, Exodus, Levitucus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. “Torah” will play Tuesdays March 9, - April 13, 2004 at 8PM at the Odyssey Theatre, and is comprised of:
Soap Boxing Alexander Yannis Stephano will direct. The cast will feature members of the Circus Theatricals Studio Ensemble, the acting company of Circus Theatricals. Producers are Jack Stehlin (Circus Theatricals Artistic Director), and Jeannine Stehlin (Circus Theatricals Producing Director). Colette Freedman, playwright, screenwriter and actress, has been produced in both Los Angeles and New York. Her first short play, “First to the Egg” was a recent semi finalist in the Off-Broadway Turnip Theatre Company and had a successful run in Los Angeles in 2002. Theater work includes a recent off-broadway stint as Vera in Mark Troy’s ‘Aggravation’, and theatre tours of Juliet in “Romeo & Juliet,” and Hermia in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Colette’s film work as a writer includes the documentary “Making Shakespeare Accessible to Children” with narration by Alfred Molina and “Finding Fred Mertz”, a short film in which she also starred, which is currently in production at Incline Entertainment and whose screenplay recently won Best Screenplay at UrbanInsider.com. Her screenplays ‘Choosing Dani’ and ‘Mallory Kate’ are currently making the studio rounds. She is a proud member of Circus Theatricals.
