CIRCUS THEATRICALS ANNOUNCES FALL 2007 SEASON

Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night”, “Festival of New One Act Plays”,
World Premiere of Shem Bitterman’s “Harm’s Way” are in the line up.

Los Angeles , CA July 25- Shakespeare and world premieres are the focus of the Circus Theatricals Fall Season. Award-winning and critically acclaimed theatre company Circus Theatricals will present main stage productions of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, The Circus Theatricals Festival of One Act Plays, and the world premiere of Shem Bitterman’s “Harm’s Way.” The company also plans to continue its Salon Series, which features film screenings, cabaret performances, and poetry readings.

Twelfth Night, written by William Shakespeare, is the classic tale of love, loss, mistaken identity… and yellow stockings. Taking place in the land of Illyria, this play will have live music. Circus Theatricals Artistic Director Jack Stehlin directs. Associate Artist and flim/stage star Alfred Molina serves as dramaturg. Twelfth Night previews Friday August 31 st and Friday September 7 th. Opening night is Saturday September 8 th. Twelfth Night will play Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm through October 13 th.

The Circus Theatricals Festival of One Act Plays,
will present original short one act plays. The plays are all southern California and/or world premieres by established and emerging playwrights. The Circus Theatricals Festival of One Act Plays will play Sundays at 7pm, First preview is September 23 rd, with plans to run to November 11 th.

Harm’s Way is the second of Shem Bitterman’s Iraq War trilogy, following last year’s hit, Man.gov. Harm’s Way tells the tale of a career military investigator, who searches for the truth regarding the alleged ambush/murder of Iraqi civilians by U.S troops – while at the same time fighting to save his troubled daughter here at home. Circus Theatricals Associate Artist Steve Zuckerman directs. Harm’s Way previews Saturday October 27 th and Friday November 2 nd. Opening night is Saturday November 3 rd. Harm’s Way will play Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm through November 15 th.

Circus Theatricals
Jack Stehlin founded Circus Theatricals in New York in 1983. The company’s notable NYC productions include Shakespeare’s Macbeth Off-Broadway at the Classic Stage Company and Danton’s Death at the Rapp Arts Center. In 1995, Circus Theatricals moved to Los Angeles, where Jack met and partnered with Jeannine Wisnosky (Jack and Jeannine married two years later). In LA, Circus Theatricals was in residence at The Hudson Guild (The Job, Hedda Gabler) from 1995 - 1999, and the Odyssey Theatre (Hamlet, Richard III, True West, Tartuffe, The Cherry Orchard) from 1999 to 2005.

Circus Theatricals began their 2006 season in the new Circus Theatricals Studio Theatre at the Hayworth. The company plans to continue to present a mix of classic and new plays. In 2006, Circus Theatricals presented four world premiere plays in repertory, including John Bunzel’s” Complexity,” R. Hamilton Wright’s “Greensward,” Colette Freedman's "Sister Cities," and Shem Bitterman’s Man.gov, as well as the classic play, "Iphigenia in Aulis." Circus Theatricals is a participant in the 365LA, the largest theatre festival in the United States.

Further goals include a plan to develop more new works with established and budding playwrights,expand community outreach programs, develop a subscription audience, continue to develop the Circus Theatricals Studio Ensemble, and enhance the quality of training in The Circus Theatricals Studio for Actors.

Circus Theatricals has garnered awards and nominations from the LA Drama Critics Circle, Back Stage West, the LA Weekly, LA Stage Alliance Ovations, and Dramalogue.

 

Tickets and Venue Information

The Circus Theatricals Studio Theatre at The Hayworth is located at 2511 Wilshire Blvd , just East of Hoover. The theatre, located in the historic Wilshire District, is just off the 10 and 110 freeways, and is located near a subway stop. The theatre entrance is at 643 Carondelet. The Circus Theatricals Studio theatre is on the second floor. There is ample street parking, as well as a low-priced parking lot adjacent to the West side of the building on Wilshire.
