ODYSSEY THEATRE and CIRCUS THEATRICALS PRESENT
ANTON CHEKHOV’S “THREE SISTERS”
Perennial audience favorite opens Saturday September 12, 2009

Los Angeles, CA (August 17, 2009) - Award-winning and critically-acclaimed theatre companies The Odyssey Theatre (Ron Sossi, Artistic Director, Beth Hogan, Associate Artistic Director) and Circus Theatricals (Jack Stehlin, Artistic Director, Jeannine Wisnosky Stehlin, Managing Director) announce that their next co-production is to be Anton Chekhov’s “THREE SISTERS”. Circus Theatricals Artistic Director Jack Stehlin directs. “THREE SISTERS,” about the lives and loves of the Prozorov sisters in the turn-of-the-last-century Russia, is adapted by the director and the cast.

Previews begin Wednesday September 9. The Odyssey/Circus Theatricals co-production opens Saturday September 12 and closes October 31, 2009. ABOUT “THREE SISTERS”
First performed in 1901, Anton Chekhov’s classic tale of life, love, and longing takes place at the turn of the last century in a provincial Russian village. Three educated sisters; Olga, Masha and Irina, along with their brother Andrey, dream of returning to their childhood home in Moscow, where they remember life to be more exciting and meaningful. As they begin to socialize with soldiers from the local military post (where their father was commander), their lives take an unexpected turn.

This production is adapted from a Russian translation by the cast and company members of Circus Theatricals. Live music throughout the performance, with original compositions and arrangements by composer Roger Bellon. Full cast announcement soon.

Are we progressing and becoming an enlightened species – or are we doomed to repeat the same mistakes, continue to have wars, continue to waste and deplete the earth, and continue to be unfulfilled and disappointed in our personal relationships? Despite how modern and convenient our lives have become, what will it take for us to evolve? In working on and adapting “THREE SISTERS” with this marvelous cast, I’m struck by how relevant and personal Chekhov’s themes of responsibility are. ‘If only we knew… if we only knew… if we only knew….’ ”
